Oliver: what do you want to talk
about made by this lead developer
of the what the 10 000 things
Sam: thank you I'm the lead developer of
Oliver: Doors, but Yes,
you've, you've said it.
Today we are talking about
a Roblox game called Doors.
Now, you might be wondering
what the hell is Roblox.
But first,
Sam: what do you want to talk about?
Oliver: Doors, I already said.
It's the one year anniversary
of the Hotel Plus update.
Of the Hotel Plus update.
I was thinking about originally doing
the actual release date, so it's like,
the real second anniversary, but because
Doors, Doors is Like one year and a
half old, but we actually went past
that date already and I don't want to
wait half a year to do this podcast.
Sam: It was just a good
excuse to talk about it.
You felt that this took an
entertaining game, it made it even more
entertaining, but more importantly,
it's the only way you've ever known
Oliver: it.
Yeah..
I'm kind of sad.
It's a whole different game.
It's almost like a whole
different game now, well, a bit.
Like, there's lots of changes that
I'll never get to experience the
original way, which is kind of sad.
Sam: Can you watch earlier
versions on YouTube, I
Oliver: guess?
That's the only reason I know about
there was a, the, before, like, yeah,
Sam: Okay, so it's a super exciting
game that you've loved for a
long time, seven months, eight
months you've been playing it.
About what Roblox is first.
Roblox is an incredibly popular gaming
app, if you didn't know, available for
every device pretty much out there.
Oliver: It's kind of
as crazy as Minecraft.
Sam: It's as crazy as Minecraft.
And now of course, Minecraft isn't really
just one game either, but Roblox really
is hundreds, thousands of different games,
Oliver: all in one app.
Like Minecraft, there's like, there's,
there's creative, there's survival,
there's adventure, but there's like
millions of games and like, there's,
there's, there's games getting,
like, getting released right now.
Yeah,
Sam: there's new ones coming
out all the time, yeah.
And, yeah.
And there's so many different
Oliver: styles.
Yes, there's there's.
So there's games like
this where should I start?
There's like role play games, , there's
horror games, there's survival games,
there's adventure games, there's
even story games, could you imagine?
Sam: Yeah, they're not all creepy,
they're not all battle oriented, a lot
of them are just kind of like cute and
Oliver: like nice.
Yes, and some of them, yeah, like
And one, one example is this game
called Don't Press the Button.
Yeah.
Like, which is basically, and
random things happen, like.
Ah.
Sam: So, obviously everyone
presses the button,
Oliver: or Like, everyone's just like,
everyone's just crowding over the
button, waiting to be able to push it.
Oh, I see.
But then something happens.
Ah, right.
Sam: And, so some of the games
are really small, and some
Oliver: of them are quite large.
Some of them are, some
of them are a big deal.
Some of them don't really have
more than three people active.
Sam: Oh, okay.
So active players at a time,
that's the main important thing
Oliver: about a game?
Yeah, that's like I like, like, something
that I know that I like, I sound, I play,
I play a game that like, it looks good
on the title, I want to play it, but I'm
like, oh, this one, this game is designed
for like, lots of people and there's
only like, five people active in it.
Ah,
Sam: well, give it a go anyway.
Yeah.
But more popular stuff tends
to just get more and more
popular, that's how it works.
Yeah.
So, well, so Roblox is a,
it's a gaming platform.
Anyone can make a game
Oliver: for Roblox if they
have the desktop version,
Sam: but not everyone can succeed,
obviously, in making a game for Roblox
and of course the platform owners
themselves make an enormous sum of money
out of this and some creators do really
well, most just, you know, get a little.
Oliver: Also I, I wanna, I wanna
actually mention something interesting.
One of my friends yesterday was telling
me to join them because apparently
the creator of this game called Please
Donate was, was playing that game and
then he was like, walked up to me and
said, oh, do you want one million Roblox?
Oh boy.
And?
I didn't reply to him, but I,
I, man, I was excited inside,
but I didn't really show it.
I
Sam: don't think he was going to
give you a million Roblox somehow.
Oliver: Yeah.
Sam: That's the in game
currency, everyone.
Okay.
So, Roblox, beloved of nine year olds.
There are some older
kids still playing it.
There are not just boys in there.
I think there's heaps of girls as well.
It depends on
Oliver: the game.
Yes, like I'm so annoyed that like
Brookhaven, like this roleplay game
called Brookhaven, like it has like like
one day I checked and it was like 475k
active and that like I've never seen a
game like close to even close to that
much and like I'm gonna say 90 percent
of it is girls, which kind of annoys me.
Like, I'm annoyed.
Why won't girls play something else?
Sam: Okay.
But aren't all the boys kind
of piling into one or two games
Oliver: as well?
I guess so.
But I'm saying, games like okay,
like Doors, this one I Yep.
Boys and girls both play it, so
Sam: Oh, that's good.
Well, I mean, yeah, I prefer a thing
that appeals to, you know, more than one
Oliver: gender for sure, but
Same thing with Rainbow Friends.
Sam: Hmm.
What?
Boys and girls?
Yes.
Well, that's good.
I think it's, I think it's often a sign
of a really great you know, product.
I don't want to say that word, but a
really great story, movie, game, whatever.
If it does appeal to more than
one gender or age group, I think
that's usually a sign that it's,
you know, there's something special.
So that's cool.
And I think a lot of the games, I think
a lot of the games on Roblox are quite,
They're quite particular, they're a very
particular thing, and so they might even,
not even appeal to most boys, or to most
girls, it might be something that's like,
it's, cause, buddy, there's no way for
me to explain this, other than like, when
I was a kid, like, there were like four
channels, and 90 percent of it was for
adults, and it was super boring for kids.
Like TV was just like blah,
but you just put up with it.
There was like, it was better
than absolutely nothing.
Like it was better than
going outside and playing.
Like it was better than like
doing your homework, right?
Yeah.
You know, I actually like going outside to
play, but you know, you know what I mean.
Yeah.
And you would just watch any old crap,
Oliver: right?
No, it was better, it was better, it
was, it's better to watch that boring
stuff rather than going outside in a
in, in, in heavy rain or something.
Well,
Sam: no, but let's say it's a nice day
and I'm inside watching Lawn Bowls on the,
on the TV because it's literally the only
thing, and that was what culture was like.
Fast forward to now, it's like there's,
they've made a show that's aimed Exactly
at everyone, whether it's on YouTube,
like everyone there, it doesn't matter who
you are and how specific your tastes are.
Someone has made a game or
a show that's like for you.
So it's like crazy niche.
So Roblox, there's, there's basically
something on there for everyone.
If you're a kid.
Yeah.
Now.
There's a game in particular that
just really pushes your buttons.
You just love the hell out of it.
And
Oliver: like everyone has their favorite
game that like they play most of the time.
Yeah.
Yeah, and your favorite?
I'm like, I think I think I know
a couple of people in my, a couple
of girls in my class who only
do Roblox just for Brookhaven.
Sam: Oh, okay.
Well, sure.
And look, eventually they
might try something else.
Oliver: Like I've been trying to
convince them to try something else.
They said maybe.
Okay, but you're kind of stuck
Sam: on
Oliver: doors.
I have been playing a lot
of other games as well.
Sam: Oh, okay, okay, well the one
we're here to talk about is Doors.
Yes.
Now, it's, well, it's a, it's kind of,
what I know about it is you've got to run
around, you've got to get away from scary
people, things, there's a lot of doors,
and it's all about getting to door 100.
Oliver: Well, what about I explain?
Sure.
Okay.
So you had some sections in mind.
So, it's you and Usually, usually up
to four of your friends, like, you're
in a, it's just a nice, peaceful hotel,
made full of a hundred doors, maybe some
puzzles, maybe some keys, maybe some
levers you need to find, but, it's mainly
peaceful, but no, it can't be like that.
A bunch of entities
come and ruin your fun.
Dammit.
Sam: Creepy supernatural entities.
Oliver: Well, yeah, exactly.
Like, they're not humans.
Kind of weird.
Yeah.
Sam: Now this game was based
on another game that was
before it, which was called the
Oliver: rooms, which we'll
get to soon, the rooms.
Oh, okay.
Yep.
Any, any way.
There's your, your main objective is
to make it through a hundred doors.
Now, before the hotel Plus update,
it was mostly, there was only
three rooms that were guaranteed
to spa the reception room door.
One.
Sam: What's spawn?
What?
What does spawn mean?
Guaranteed to spawn means that there's
definitely gonna be a monster there.
No,
Oliver: I mean like it's guaranteed
that that room's gonna spawn like the
reception room, door 50 aka the library,
and door 100 the maintenance area.
It's not the same layout
each time, got ya.
So like it's randomized every single time.
It's
Sam: procedurally generated,
it's an algorithm.
Oliver: Exactly and yeah.
Exactly.
So, each playthrough is different.
Yes, and that makes, yeah, you see,
yeah, I think it was a kind of an attempt
to keep people sticking around it.
I don't think I, what I'd feel, I can't
imagine Duels without it being randomized.
I mean, that's the thing
that keeps me playing it.
Yeah, great.
It's do, like, everything, like the
entity spawns, the rooms, the The items,
the gold, it's all different every run.
Sam: Stays the same, you usually want to
play it with other people, and it's all
Oliver: about getting from 1 to 100.
Yes.
I mean, certain rooms like the
door 50, the library, is easier
to get past with other people.
Right.
Sam: And, well, there's advantages
to playing with other people, yeah.
Oliver: Well, of one Of course
there's, this means people will
sometimes try to troll you and,
and steal a hiding spot from you.
Now, this, don't worry, don't get too
angry if that happens to you because
there's a badge for doing this, betrayal.
Very nice.
For stealing a hiding spot from somebody
and Something that I really like about
this game is like, playing it with
more than four people is a bit like
musical chairs actually, like Yeah, not
everyone's gonna get a hiding place.
Okay, so let me, like How many hiding
places are there in the average room?
If it's like a small hallway,
I've, you, you, like, no, no
more than six hiding spots.
And, okay.
Anyway, why do you need these
hiding spots for two entities here?
Before I start explaining about all of
this game, by the way, if you, maybe
you should play this game first before
you hear us talk about it, because
this might, it might ruin your fun.
And, so, here we go.
Rush.
This is probably the most common
entity in the whole hotel.
So, if, yeah, somewhere between
like door 11 and door 14 is the most
common spawn, first spawn for Rush.
The light will flick out in a room
when you, when you enter it, and
this usually means brushes coming.
Sorry.
Yeah.
I should just, you might, you
might, I should just, but in and
Sam: say the game is kind of meant
to be scary and suspenseful and,
Oliver: but it's spooky after,
after atmospheric, after a few,
after like a, after you like see
the same jump scan, like, I don't
know, one again after one time.
It, but it does scare people.
Yeah.
I mean.
Yeah I just heard my
voice from the microphone.
Yeah, yeah, that's right.
And, okay, so well Now, now you,
now you, you, you will now start
to hear a discorded growling sound
meaning he is, he is approaching.
So you want to either jump in a wardrobe
or under a bed or you can find a spot that
looks like Rush can't see you from there.
So like, and then you get
a badge in plain sight.
So like, for those you like, if it's
like a basement room, you can go down
to the basement and he will get you.
Like, or you can hide behind a maybe
a wardrobe or a a couch, maybe?
Classic hide
Sam: and seek spots.
Yes, like
Oliver: In a wardrobe,
Sam: under a
Oliver: bed.
And then you can go do it in
plain sight, which is What happens
Sam: when you hide in plain sight?
Oliver: No, I mean, not that, I mean,
that's what the badge is called,
but that's what people call it.
It's like, basically, it's not like
you're in a wardrobe or under a bed,
but It's in a place that, obviously,
Rush won't be able to see you from.
Sam: Oh, okay.
So, if you've played it a bunch of
times, you know there's certain spots
where you won't get spotted even though
Oliver: you're not inside something.
Like, there's this room with, like, no
hiding spots, like, with, like, like, like
you open up the doors into, like, a little
place with, like, a sliding, cabinet.
There's, there's guaranteed a 100 percent
item spawn, but there's no hiding spot,
which is the downside of it, but you
there you can hide behind like a little
fallen wardrobe which blocks your path.
So you have to, which,
Sam: yeah.
So the game, game will like Figure
out what angle his, you know, the,
the creature's head is at, and whether
there's anything in the way of you and
Oliver: it.
Exactly.
And then that's how the
terms of hit boxes work.
Yes.
So,
Sam: yes.
I think they, and I think they call
it collision detection as well.
Yes.
In game engines.
Yeah.
So you've learnt all about
how the game's made, huh?
That's
Oliver: interesting.
Yeah.
Hit boxes.
Yeah.
Hit boxes is the, oh yeah, exactly.
Like.
Hitboxes are used for, actually,
lots of games in general,
Sam: really.
Well, yeah, because it triggers events.
It's like,
Oliver: did, did Like if, like also,
discovering the hitbox of every entity
is kind of a thing, like, or if, Do
I, if I like go under figures arm will
he get me or does that literally or is
it a real physical hitbox like if you
want me to answer that question it's
yes I've had a few calls with this
entity which I we're like really so
if only a few touches you you you die
Sam: but so it's just like in the old
days when you're fighting end boss and
you know that there's certain spots
where like the you Yeah, exactly.
So.
Only if you touch the creature,
will it actually hurt you?
Exactly.
Okay.
And that, that one was called?
What?
Oliver: And that creature was?
A figure.
Now, he's probably the
main entity in the game.
He spawns at door 50 and door 100.
Door 50, I said, was set in a library,
and door 100 is set in a maintenance area.
Right.
Now, he is blind.
, he cannot see you.
That may sound like, oh, I can do
whatever I want, but no, he's got
a very good sense of hearing, and
he, and so, do you, we want to stay
crouched to stop him from detecting
you, and Yeah, don't move around.
I mean, not exactly.
If, like, stay crouched and
he'll stick to his walking path.
Which, like, he'll stay on his walking
paths unless he can hear you, then
he'll just automatically follow you.
So
Sam: basically what you're
laying out here is strategy.
You're just telling everyone
how to get through the game.
Now, have you made it to door 100 yet?
Two or three times.
Okay, so you've technically
completed the game more than once.
. No.
Oliver: I haven't
completed it, technically.
Remember there's boss fight at door 100.
And like, the old hotel, the old
boss fight was like, that was, it was
really easy, but the new one is quite
Sam: hard, actually.
Ah, okay, so you haven't
won the boss fight yet.
Yeah.
Okay, and it takes a long time to get to
door 100, only to lose the boss fight.
This is quite a hard game, isn't it?
Yeah.
That's why there's so much
discussion of strategy, yeah.
But
Oliver: Of course, there's revives,
which you can buy with Robux,
but there's a few rules in place.
Like, you can only revive once
per run, and you can't revive
in the greenhouse or door 100.
Sam: Yeah, revive means
you didn't actually die.
Yeah, that's a bit of a cheat.
The purest way is to, of course,
to get through without dying.
Oliver: So, yeah.
And yeah, I've gotten to do 100
without reviving to rev, survive.
Sweet.
And
Sam: of course, heal.
There's way to, there's ways to heal.
Of
Oliver: course, of course.
Some entities don't exactly hit
you directly, but they damage you.
Yeah.
And you can find bandaids around the map,
which heals you 15 out of your 100 health.
Yeah.
Because yes, you.
You've got a hundred health.
Yeah.
And, but then there's another
way of healing in the hotel.
Maybe I should just talk about that in
Sam: Oh, okay, hang on, you weren't
finished with your creatures
Oliver: yet.
Your entities.
Okay.
Now, those, now, I'm not going
to tell you about all of them,
but there's, I'm talking, telling
you about the main entities.
Now, ambush I'm gonna say in quite
rare cases, aka once a run, you
might, you, if, now, if the lights
don't flicker, you might hear, you
might still hear a, like a, ffff,
ffff, that means ambush is coming.
Ambush is a bit like rush, you can
hide from him, like the way rush
does, but there's a little twist.
One, he's a bit faster,
and two, he can rebound.
So he comes back up to six times.
In rare instances, he will.
Sam: Okay, now, so the
best way to avoid Now,
Oliver: now, you might think of just
staying in the wardrobe until you know
he's gone, but this is why, this is
why hide is here to ruin your day.
Now, you might already know, you
might, you probably figured this out,
but yeah, hide start, if you stay in
a ward, in a hiding spot for too long
not a plain hide, not in a plain sight,
but just in a wardrobe or under a bed.
It'll start to, your screen will start
to go red and you'll start to see
the message, Get out, which meaning
that Hide is now, angry with you for
being in the hiding spot for too long
and you need to get out soon before
he damages, before he pushes you out.
Yep.
Sam: Okay.
So yeah, don't just hide forever.
That won't work either.
Oliver: I think that hide was actually
originally an attempt to just stop
noobs from slowing the group down.
Sam: Oh, of course.
But also, a well designed game, there
can't be any option that's too easy.
Yes.
There has to be a penalty for
everything, and there has to
be an advantage to everything.
And you have to be, you know, a good
game will balance the different options.
Basically, it shouldn't be set
up in a way that, like, there's
just a super easy way every time.
Yeah.
You know, so, you can hide, well, that's
got advantages, but do it for too long,
Oliver: something bad will happen.
Well, speaking of hiding, you can hide
from figure in wardrobes or under beds.
Well, only in Door 100 before the Hotel
Plus update was that ever possible.
Right.
But, now, anyway.
But if, but there's a punishment
for it, it's not like you can
just wait for a figure to pass by.
If, so he can sense your heartbeat
if you're near and if he walks
past you in a wardrobe he'll,
you'll have to do the heartbeat winning
game, which is kind of very hard and
I'm just going to say, most kids cannot
even get past the first two beats.
Right, okay.
It's, you need perfect, direct,
sharp timing, which is some,
hard for even some adults to do.
Well, so a heart will pop up on
your screen and, depends on what
you're playing on, but you'll have
to make two halves of a heart.
So, you'll see a half, a half of a drawing
of a half a heart, pop on your screen,
coming closer to the heart in the centre.
Now, this can be like, left, left.
Right, right, left, right, or right, left.
And it gets faster.
Sam: It gets faster and you've
got to match them up somehow.
Yes.
Okay.
Alright, so that takes reaction
time and hand eye coordination.
Yes.
Okay.
And if you pass that, then
you don't get detected.
Otherwise, you get detected, and
Oliver: So, you should really only use
the wardrobes if you really have to.
Right.
Like, there's no other choice.
Sam: Now, this information will
be useful if you play the game.
Yeah,
Oliver: of course you don't need
to play this game, I'm just saying.
Yeah,
Sam: yeah, but of course if you
play the game, you won't necessarily
remember all of these tips all at once.
So, how did you learn all of this stuff?
Oliver: My, my, like, I, I did the Base,
like a few goes, and then I started
looking up a bit of information and yes.
Sam: Okay, so first you
just launched in Yeah.
And then
Oliver: you were like, okay,
I'm glad I didn't look at, I,
I'm glad I didn't discover this
on the internet first, because.
Sam: Spoilers.
Yes.
Yeah, okay, so, now, now, did you finish
about the guy you said follows a track,
the entity you said follows a track?
Oliver: Oh, of course, figure, of , that
was that was the, the person with the
heartbeat minigame, and, okay, so,
in I think I'd let you figure out the
puzzles at door 50 and door 100, but.
We're not
Sam: going to spoil
Oliver: those, okay?
I can tell you maybe later, Dad,
but this is, but maybe, maybe you
should let, if you're actually going
to play the game, then maybe let
everyone else figure that out for
Sam: themselves.
Yes.
Okay.
And of course, I will play the game with
you just to experience it but yeah, go on.
Oliver: I'm very excited.
Sam: Ah, okay, cool.
So, and of course, even with all the
spoilers you've given me, I probably
Oliver: won't remember.
Also, you'll probably , adults adults
can beat the game in like five tries.
Which means you'll, you'll
be with me for most of it.
Oh, really?
Yes.
Sam: Okay, wow.
Well that's, you know, they're
throwing down a challenge.
So if I don't make it past door 5, you're
going to be like, oh, come on, Dad.
Oliver: Well, that, that, most entities
don't, except eyes, maybe, don't spawn at
door 5, so you'll, you'll be very lucky to
even die at door, like, if you can figure
out a way to, wait, if you can figure
out a way to die at the reception room,
then you deserve some sort of reward.
Sam: Oh, mate, I could have a hit video
on YouTube just explaining how to die.
In the reception room, like Yeah.
'
Oliver: cause it's impossible.
Yes.
Yeah.
it is impossible.
Unless, some, I mean, unless
you . Unless you count a
ambush, sporting somehow a door.
Yeah.
Right after the reception room.
And then you're like, there's no
places to hide in the other room.
Sam: And then I'll run back into the
reception room and then get killed
Oliver: in there.
Awesome.
Yeah.
But that actually happened to
somebody in a YouTube video.
Sam: Dammit.
So I can't, I can't
break the exclusive, oh
Oliver: well.
But, it's, it's possible, it's,
it's a bit, it's, and actually
a little luck is involved to,
for that to be able to happen.
Okay, so every,
Sam: almost everyone, apart
from a complete idiot, is almost
guaranteed to make it at least as far
Oliver: as Let's say on the first try,
maybe maybe pass the first rush, but,
well, probably all adults and kids are
at least going to either die or just
take damage to this entity called eyes.
Sam: Okay, hang on, so
the first rush is how soon
Oliver: in?
, it can happen earlier, but somewhere
between door 11 to door 14.
Sam: Okay, so everyone's pretty much
guaranteed to make it to door 14.
Oliver: Also, a fun fact, it's
impossible to beat the game
without encountering eyes.
Okay, so
Sam: eyes is the problem,
Oliver: yep, go on.
But eyes it's pretty easy to Okay.
Sam: Go.
I just poke him in the eye?
Oliver: Joke.
You, you want me to explain, I wasn't
putting this on the main list of
entities, but I guess it's Fine.
Fine, well, if, if you open, if you're,
well, as you open through doors you might
They might open a door with a purple
glow, meaning eyes are about to spawn
at that location and you need to look
away from it so you don't take damage
because, it's , he doesn't like being
looked at, but you might be thinking like
of the walls or the roof or something,
but most people know this, but you can.
This, walking, looking at the walls or
at the roof, you, you're walking through
eyes, hitbox, because your eyes actually
because if you look down, you're actually
going, walking right under his hitbox,
triggering the damage, making you can
just walk, look down and walk through him
like, like a piece, like a piece of cake.
So if
Sam: you look down You're
not looking at him.
Oliver: Like, you can still make
it through if you're, if you're, if
you've done it the right way, you
can make it through by looking at
the walls or the roof without taking,
taking any damage, but it's going
to take a little bit of planning.
Okay,
Sam: sure.
So look sideways or up?
No, look down.
Okay, look down.
All right.
Okay, oh, you can do it this other
way, but it's not going to be easy.
Okay, gotcha.
Oliver: Now, this one, I think I
mentioned in the Hotel Plus update.
Because it's, it's the only entity,
it's No, that's not right, there's more!
Oh, I'll, I'll tell, I'll tell about them,
about this entity in the, now, the second
most main, the second main entity in this
game, Seek, was, and Seek was actually the
first entity to be created for the game.
Okay, so,
Sam: far we've done Figure and
Oliver: Eyes, and now, Rush and Ambush.
Okay, and now Seek, alright.
So opening a door, somewhere
around maybe door 30 , we've done
Sam: Hide, and now here
Oliver: comes his friend Seek.
You might see, start to see eyes on the
walls causing the lights to flicker.
This isn't rushed, it's just, these
eyes are totally harmless, and
they just mess with the lights.
It's Sikh.
So, then, after eventually you might
open up a door into a long hallway
without any eyes, you might be phew,
those annoying things are out of here.
But then, opening, upon opening
the next door, your camera will
flip around, probably shocking
you, showing a cutscene of Sikh.
Writing from the goo and then start
running toward you running toward you
then you need to run away from him
i think i can let you figure out how
to do that yourself let's just say
you're not running through normal rooms
Sam: okay all right okay well
it'll probably surprise me no
Oliver: matter what now the second
seek chase happened somewhere before
the hotel plus update it was somewhere
between door 80 and door 90 but since
there's a greenhouse in the last Nine
90 doors and that got that into, that
would interfere with the greenhouse.
So it's now door 70 and already, boy, this
Sam: is some, just so you know,
this is a, this is, this is
detail we we're going into here.
Oliver: Okay.
That's enough about all
the main entities now.
Okay.
Sam: All right.
Now I'll just stop and say this
'cause, because you wanna win the.
And you don't want to waste a run.
That's why you've made
this effort to learn this
Oliver: stuff, right?
Yeah, I mean, I actually found out
that I'm I thought I was that bad at
duels at first, that's why I started
looking for information, but turns
out I'm kind of, I'm at like 111
deaths now and that's kind of like
what is now when he's like at 100.
Oh, I think I mentioned it.
No, that's alright, that's alright.
Yeah, yeah.
So, I'm doing okay, actually.
I'm average, really.
You're doing okay.
You're not
Sam: bad at it.
Also, you've, just like, like people
underestimate what kids can learn in a,
you know, if they're really motivated.
So, like, you know, kids
that know everything
Oliver: about If only they teach
that stuff at school then, I think
kids would pay much more attention.
Well,
Sam: you know, isn't that interesting?
I don't think there's any need to teach it
at school because the kids will go on I'm
Oliver: just saying that as an
example that kids would pay much
more attention if it was something,
like, interesting like that.
So this is what
Sam: we call, like, special interest.
Yeah.
And people, you know, it's motivated
study, it's motivated research.
You have a reason.
So you've gone out and found
out and you found out through
articles and also videos, right?
Yes.
So what's your favourite way to get
information, videos or articles?
Oliver: Really I like getting
information from this YouTuber
called CaptainJackAttack, which does,
does informal content, like Yeah.
Actually, there was this really
interesting video that said 13 different
types of players in Roblox doors.
Oh.
And, basically, you're, everyone's
at least, everyone's one of them.
Okay, and what kind are you?
I feel like, I think I'm the looter.
Ah.
Like, they have to check
every single drawer.
Oh,
Sam: I know that feeling.
Yeah.
Yeah, when I'm in a game I find it
really hard to pass up any kind of
Oliver: container.
Me too, like especially since since the
super hard mode update, they've actually
upped the prices in, I'm not going to say,
let's save that for the Hotel Plus update.
Oh,
Sam: okay, okay, so you had a bunch
of sections you wanted to discuss.
Oliver: Actually, you know what?
Yeah.
We're, we're in, we're in the end of
the explaining the sums of the main
entity, so let's you know, the rooms
is a part of the Hotel Plus, so,
let's do all of it in one big bit.
Okay, so the sections
Sam: you wanted to cover,
what have you covered so
Oliver: far?
Entities, introduction and entities.
Now this is about the
biggest update in DOORS.
So
Sam: how many sections have we got left?
Two.
Okay,
Oliver: and what are they?
Actually, you know what?
It's just so it's fun
facts and conclusion.
Oh,
Sam: okay, and you wanted to do
Oliver: rooms.
Yeah, but I was, I was, I actually
made those two, one section, since
it's part of the hotel, kind of.
Oh, okay, okay.
Alright, well, here we go.
Okay, so the Hotel Plus update is released
on the day that we're recording this
podcast, probably going to release it on
the same day as well, It's the biggest
update and there's the kind of the sub
line of this is the rules have changed
and I think not 100 percent but yeah
there it is different a bit for example
it it can there's I'm going to tell you
some of the main parts but really it's
actually just it's that things can really
there's little details have changed
Sam: Yeah.
All the little changes.
Mind you, this won't mean anything
unless you knew what it was
Oliver: before, but okay.
Now, ask me a question,
what was this update for?
Sam: Yeah, okay, and is
it, it's the biggest one?
Oliver: Yes, well, I think the
main objectives for this update
was to ramp up the difficulty.
Make it harder, okay.
Like, especially with the 90s and
the, make the door 100 figure boss
fight harder than the door 50 one.
Okay, so in the early,
Sam: so in the early
Oliver: days.
It was door 50 was actually harder
than the door 100, but figure boss way.
So it was uneven.
And so now lot of people weren't getting
past 50 or they got to 100, like it's
a huge struggle from, hold on, hold
Sam: on.
Or they, they couldn't get past 50.
So they got frustrated or they got to 50
and then they got to 100 and they were
like, oh, the a hundred boss was too easy.
Wha Okay, got you.
So,
Oliver: Yes, but the, the way they
were going to do this was add a new
part of the map called the greenhouse.
Which, they're all 10 inches doors.
After the courtyard, doors 91 to 99.
And, how, how it would work is
there's, this is where one of the
new entities get introduced, Snare.
It's, you have, it traps it's, it Anyway,
of course it's dark in the greenhouse, so.
Now there's a new one, there's a new
item called the candle, which goes
out when entities are coming, so.
Since the greenhouse is dark,
there's no lights that can flicker.
Oh, the whole game
Sam: is quite dark, by the way, and
sources of illumination, like lighters,
candles, torches, are really important.
Well, actually I didn't say it's
pitch dark the whole game, but,
like, lighting is real useful.
Oliver: Exactly, since you're
going to encounter, I don't know,
twelve, maybe, dark rooms, probably
more dark rooms in the game.
You're going to want lighters
Sam: and candles and, and torches
Oliver: and things to pick up.
You'd usually save the candle for the
greenhouse because it got But since
there's no lights that can flicker
in the greenhouse, it means Rush
can just come without any warning.
So, you'd use the, you'd use
the candle to like, and you'd go
like, Oh, the candle went out!
It means, it might mean Screech
or maybe Rush is coming.
Sam: It's like the
canary in the coal mine.
Okay, cool, yeah.
Oliver: And, and then you'd jump in.
Now, this was shown in the Hotel Plus
update trailer, also, so , yeah, the
spawn rate for Rush was increased, so was
Eyes, so Eyes also appears a lot in the
Sam: Greenhouse.
Okay, so to put that in plain English,
they made some of the monsters appear
Oliver: more.
And all the other monster
entities pretty much can't appear.
Okay.
Unless you're, in super rare
instances, you might get Halt
in the Greenhouse somehow.
Okay.
Sam: Okay, so you're saying, this
is towards the end of the game,
they've like, made it harder,
they've made stuff pop up more.
Oliver: Yeah, now, before the Hotel
Plus update, it was kind of still,
they did put in coding for the last,
for the 90s to be harder, upping the
rates of dark rooms being spawned.
Also, if you haven't run
into ambush or halt, you're
probably going to get ambushed.
Okay, so
Sam: they tick them off the list.
At the end.
Now, the reason to make it harder
is, it's really important that
the game is hard, isn't it?
Yeah.
Why?
Why is it important for a game to
Oliver: be hard?
Well, if it's too easy,
it's not, it's not fun.
Sam: Oh, okay.
Excellent point.
Now, did you observe that there
are loads of games around for
kids that are like too easy?
This is something you've
noticed, isn't it?
And sometimes they're fun, right?
But then they stop being fun.
Yeah.
There's actually a lot of
games for adults as well.
But it's too easy.
Yeah, there's a lot of this, yeah.
Oliver: So I guess maybe, maybe the
creators thought maybe you should make
something that's not easy and hard.
Sam: That's right, and there's nearly
always ways to crank up the difficulty.
Like you said, the AI, like, you know,
the bots you're fighting to be smarter and
or to have better stats and all of that.
But But, you know, eventually you
kind of master it and then that's it,
but it shouldn't be easy to master a
game, I guess is what we're saying.
Oliver: Yeah, and, okay,
that's probably the first bit.
Now, the, probably the star
of the Hotel Plus update.
Probably this one out of the three new
items, this one's called The Crucifix.
And this was, The Crucifix and
The Skeleton Key, which is another
one that's been brought back.
It's actually a scrapped item,
both two items scrapped five days
before the release of this game.
Because they were considered too OP.
Sam: Means overpowered for
all you noobs out there.
Okay hopefully there's A mix of
noobs and doors heads listening.
Now, the Crucifix is
expensive, but awesome.
Oliver: Rare to find, but you can buy it
from the Jeff shop, which is with three
friendly monsters, El Gobolino, Bob the
Skeleton, and Jeff, who owns the shop.
Sam: Right, and it'll
wipe out most of your
Oliver: baddies.
Yeah, it'll banish.
It can even, it can, it can actually
even do I, but the achievement is
called, that probably wasn't the best
use of the crucifix you, you kind of
wasted this powerful item on this one.
But, but then I bet loads of
people just being like, I'm just
trying to get an achievement here.
Yeah, of
Sam: course achievement farming,
that's always important.
You know, 'cause achievements, well,
they get you badges for starters.
But also, is there anything else,
like points or anything like that
that you get from achievements?
Not really, but it's,
Oliver: but you can display the
badge on your character in the
lobby to like show off to other,
your friends and stuff like that.
So you can pick a badge to
Sam: show off at any time?
Yeah.
Okay, that's cool.
Yeah, it's fun to get achievements, I
think it can be a real big motive to keep
Oliver: playing a game.
Now, since these, the crucifix and the
skeleton key is quite rare, they decided
to make it fair so you can buy these at
the Geoff shop for 250 coins each bit.
Now it's 500 for the Crucifix
and 300 for the Skeleton
Sam: Key.
Okay, so they're more expensive.
Okay, and obviously the Skeleton
Key, that's going to open doors, just
Oliver: instantly.
Well, it's original use was to be able
to be used just like the Lockpick, except
it's durability is It's five times so now
it's different it's just it can be used
like a lockpick but you're meant to save
it for the two instances one the infirmary
which spawns on somewhere around like
door 66 but it's hard to pick the lock
on that one no you can't you have to use
the skeleton kit and you open it there'll
be like a mini explosion oh no I like
explosion but No, it's not a trick, like
when I said A release of gas of some kind.
No, and then you lose the game.
But no, it's not like that.
You'll find, one, lots of money, but two,
a plant, which if you interact with, a
message says, your heart beats stronger
than before, you'll get an achievement.
It'll heal all your health, plus,
if you take any damage, you'll
notice that it slowly gets healed.
Okay,
Sam: and this is helpful because you're
taking damage through the game on and
off, and you want to have health when
you get to the baddie at the end.
Oliver: Well, he instantly kill,
he instantly kills you, but, so it
wouldn't matter how much health you had.
But it would just like, maybe it's good
to have some health to get past the
greenhouse with all the screech bites
and eyes and snares and you might get,
but you can't actually die to snare.
Because same thing with Timothy the
Spider, who might, which in rare
instances might appear in drawers.
They, they both only do five and ten
damage and Yeah, I was gonna say,
Sam: can I butt in?
Yeah.
It only takes you down so low.
Yeah.
Before it
Oliver: stops.
Yeah.
And then stops damaging you.
Yeah, gotcha.
But, there's a way that you can Yeah.
Yeah.
Die to both of them, but I think
I'm gonna let you find that out.
Find that out.
Figure that
Sam: out yourself.
I'm try, I'll try and figure out how
to be a mega goof and stuff it up,
even though it's almost impossible.
Excellent.
Okay.
There is a way.
Yeah.
I'm all about, I'm all about
the impossible fail that no
one thought was possible.
I'm all
Oliver: about it.
Exactly.
Yeah.
Sam: Of like, you know, you know in
Minecraft when like you survive a ton
of battles and then you like walk into.
Oliver: I mean, that's probably
gonna be like, that would be like
in a Minecraft, like if there's such
thing, Minecraft funny moments, like
somebody's like, yeah, look guys, I
I've got, I'm, I've, I'm good now.
And then, and then, okay, let's go
back to a base and I can heal my,
and fill up my warrior stomach.
But then you just walk right into a
berry bush and it's like, and it was
like it was like, bad bicycle has,
has walked into a berry bush and died.
Sam: I'm a victorious warrior.
I killed some, I killed some raiders.
Tim the first time, it
was pretty exciting.
I was like, ah, I was like, I was
doing that classic streamer thing.
Oliver: I wasn't streaming.
That's a bit like dying to Timothy.
I was, I was by
Sam: myself and I was like, ah, and
I was running around trying to get
away from these raiders and I killed,
I killed two of them and the other
one I don't know what happened to it.
And then
Oliver: Be like, I'm pretty sure it just
fell into a mine shaft or somewhere.
It probably fell into
Sam: a hole.
And, and then I like, I
go, whew, I survived that.
And then like, I'm walking back to
base and I walk through a thorn bush
and it killed me, and I'm like the
victorious warrior defeated by a bush.
So there, yeah, that is fun.
I like that kind of stuff.
It's called Snatching Defeat
from the Jaws of Victory.
Anyways, so back to doors, it's
possible to kill yourself on a
snare, but you'd have to be a genius.
Oliver: Or Timothy, but it's, there's
a way, which I'm not going to tell you.
Okay, alright.
Now, now there's, okay, so, now the
second use of this is, so, oh boy,
Sam: strap in for more detail everyone.
Okay, go.
Oliver: So, in Door 59, you'll enter
a room that has a rip in the, like, if
you peek behind a wardrobe it has a rip
in the wall, and if you walk through a
maze, you'll find the room where I busted
the myth about, you can go, you can find
Door's floor too, the, aka, the next
That's doors basically doors two if you
tap on the picture there three times, but
that is is I tried that by the way dad No,
it doesn't work So but then the real thing
is there's a gate that's blocked off by
the gates that you'll need to open using
levers So in door 60, you'll find a well
basically like a dark lever room except
both sides are open And you'll have to go
through a big maze looking for a lever.
It might It might take
like five or ten minutes.
If you're bad, if you get extremely
bad luck and choose the wrong side,
it might take you ten minutes.
Anyway, that does open the one to the
next room, but My brain is filling up.
If you go back to the, through to the room
.
Just so you
know.
You'll notice that the, the gate is open.
Sam: Okay.
. Oliver: Okay.
Two little picks, one skeleton key.
You'll find, you'll find a door that
says a zero zero use two lock picks
and one skeleton key on it, and
you can teleport to the, to el to
the creator's version of the rooms.
Sam: Well, was was all this in the
plan of what you wanted to talk about?
Oliver: It, is This is like a, this is
the, this is the creators version of The
Rooms, which they inspired this game.
Right.
I mean,
Sam: I'm gonna play it,
but I mean, I may not
Oliver: need To go to The Rooms.
Yeah.
Unless you want the achievement.
Detour.
Sure, sure, sure.
I think I'm lost into The Rooms.
Sam: Well, you've definitely convinced
me you know a lot about this game, okay.
Alright, so.
Oliver: I don't think, I think
we can maybe we can not, maybe we
can skip the rooms chapter maybe.
Oh
Sam: god, I forgot
about the rooms chapter.
Alright, well just hang on, wrap
up what we were doing first.
Here, yeah.
The creators, what's the
creators special what?
Oliver: Well, it was inspired
by this game called Rooms.
Sam: Oh yes, yes, Rooms
was the one that Dawes
Oliver: was cloning.
Now it was a lot less let's say,
it was a lot more basic then.
Sure.
So it, you go through some Rooms.
What are we talking about now?
The old, the old version,
the real version of it, and.
Okay, right.
And you'll, there's.
Two entities, A60 and A120.
.
Okay, okay, alright,
right.
And, you, okay, and, yeah.
And, nothing.
Okay, that's all about
Sam: the original game.
Go on, come on, there's something
you're dying to tell me, what is it?
Oliver: Nothing actually, I don't,
I don't want to tell you about,
but A60 is a bit like Rush, and
A120 is a bit like Ambush, really.
Okay,
Sam: now that's the previous, the Dorks.
Oliver: Now, yeah.
Now, the creator's version of it
is, well, one, you notice your items
are still there, and there's gold,
and there's A60, A90, and A120.
Now, Screech used to be the most
hated entity, but now A90 is actually
a bit, like, everyone hates A90.
Okay.
And okay,
Sam: yeah, and, there's a lot of
names to keep track of and most
of them don't mean anything to me.
Now, obviously, if we
Oliver: were able to just show you Now, I
think I'm going to end this chapter pretty
quickly, but you get, you get exits from
door 200 and to go back to the doors game.
But if you manage to get to A1000,
which is gonna take a lot of
tries, you can pick up the scanner.
Which is a special item, actually.
Okay, so this
Sam: is what you were driving at here.
This was the thing you wanted to do.
Oliver: Now, the scanner is probably
the most OP item in the game.
Sam: Right.
So you wanted to, okay, so this is part
of the items you can get discussion.
Is this part of the update also?
Oliver: Yes.
, okay.
Well, I, it does, it, at first you might
think, well, it's night vision, but you
might think it can locate items in drawers
without having to open them, but It's
actually kind of disappointing because
it only works with keys and levers,
where they are, but I guess that could
really help in the double lever room.
Hmm.
Sam: Hmm.
I'm lost.
Sorry.
Okay.
So this cool item is actually not
that useful, but it's just very rare.
Oliver: It's, you know, you need to
go through the 1, 000 doors having
to deal with A60, A90 and A120.
Now, they're pretty easy.
It's just, it's really just maintaining
focus that's the real challenge.
Yeah.
Sam: Okay.
Yes.
Yeah, just remembering all this.
It's a stupendous amount of
detail that you need to do a
successful run most of the time.
Yeah, I mean, that's part
of the challenge here.
It's a memory
Oliver: feat.
No, it's basically like not falling
asleep in the middle of it, like,
it's, it's not like DOORS, it's
actually kind of, I mean Oh, hang
Sam: on, we're talking about
the previous game, ROOMS.
Yeah,
Oliver: and it's like, you know, like
the DOORS version of the room, like
Sam: the Gotcha, okay, so this
last, this last section was mainly
dealing with A version inside
DOORS of the game that inspired
Oliver: DOORS.
Nah, I don't think I'm ever gonna
get to A1000, I just thought.
Okay.
The only reason I ever go
to WIMPS is because, I guess
it's entertaining for a bit.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Oh,
Sam: and also, it's like you want to
see absolutely everything that's in it.
Like, I understand that.
It's like you
Oliver: want to tell absolutely
everything that's in your brain.
I think it's gonna make it my challenge
to get to the first exit so I can
get the next badge back on track.
Oh, I see.
Sam: Okay.
Well, I guess you want to see everything
that's in the game and you kind of want
to tell everything that's in your brain.
Yeah.
Oliver: There you go.
That makes sense.
That's a real whine.
Anyway, I think that's
the end of the chapter.
Sam: Oh, okay.
All right.
So now you also wanted
to talk about rooms.
Now, the reason for this, I'm going to
guess is that there's, there's basically
a certain number of kinds of rooms that
will spawn and then there's unique rooms,
but then all the rest are like one of.
Five kinds of rooms or whatever.
And then you've basically, there's
a strategy for dealing with each
kind of room, is that right?
I'm
Oliver: not trying, I'm not trying to
talk about the different types of rooms.
Oh, I was just saying the rooms.
Oh, okay.
Go on.
And.
Yeah, no I didn't want to tell
you about all the different types
of rooms, there's like hundreds.
Oh, I just
Sam: assumed.
Oh, there's hundreds of types of rooms.
Oliver: Well, if you count like different,
like, layouts of furniture and everything.
Oh, okay.
Like, there's your basic, there's
like your hallway, your, yeah.
There's a hallway?
Sam: Yeah.
Oliver: What else?
There's like the hallway, there's
angle rooms, there's locked rooms.
Yep.
There's lever, there's
one type of lever room.
Huh.
So, there's what else?
Like.
Sam: And there's things to
know about each kind of room,
obviously, but just the list,
Oliver: yeah.
Some rooms don't even have a hiding
spot, which means you might, you
want to go forward to the next room.
Sam: Yeah, okay, no hiding spots,
yeah, some have no hiding spots,
they're just, it's just a part, you
just pass through, others you're
going to be in there for a while.
Oliver: Or, of course, the long hallway,
Sam: which That only comes up once?
Or it's a type that comes
Oliver: in No, you mean like only
once it's seq, like it's guaranteed
to get one because of seq.
But otherwise it's just like, I
don't know, it's kind of rare.
It's not, it's not, it's, I see it.
It's not, like, I'm going
to say it's uncommon.
Ok,
Sam: but that's, but that's a room, that's
for a particular entity to appear in.
Yeah.
Okay, so there's five or
six sort of main layouts.
Yeah.
Is that what you're saying?
There's like hallways, angle rooms,
something or other something or
other, you can't remember all of them.
Oliver: Locked rooms.
Leave rooms.
Long hallway maybe.
Right.
Yep.
Maybe like room rooms.
Like just a square shaped, not
like not like a square shaped
like room with like a bed.
Okay.
Like, if you're lucky you might get
a crucifix on the walls right there.
Sure, right.
And like for the bed, for the
square, for like the bedroom room.
Sam: Yeah, this is
basically a bedroom, yeah.
Oh, and there are some
that are not a bedroom.
That they have something else,
Oliver: like a desk or something in it.
Exactly.
Yeah.
Like
Sam: Because they're not all hotel
rooms even though it's a hotel.
Yeah,
Oliver: like Yeah.
Also, I think that like there's a lot
of There's like, in fact, there's rooms
that, like, have, like, doors to, like,
probably hotel rooms, but they're all,
like, boarded off or damaged or don't have
a door handle or, and stuff like that.
And which means there might, which
means there might be more hotel
rooms that you just can't access.
Okay,
Sam: I think I understand.
Yeah, they're not actually
rooms, you can't actually
enter them really, so, yeah.
Yeah.
There you go.
Alright, well, there's a lot to this
game, it's pretty epic, it's hard to beat,
Oliver: Before we leave, I
want to tell you the weirdest
thing that happened to me.
Okay.
This, well, once I was playing with my,
yesterday I was playing with my friend
and most of the glitches happen when
I play with my friends for some reason
and this one was crazy and the lights
flickered in this room with like, it's
a hallway but it's locked and you like,
there's a, there's like a door into
like the room with like the desk cabinet
with 100 percent items transformed.
The lights flickered in that room so
I, Wurundjeri was like, I mean, ffff.
My friend was like, hide, and I, I,
I know, so then I tried hiding under
the bed with crates on it, but that,
that wouldn't work, so then I tried
hiding in the wardrobe, that didn't
work, and then suddenly I found myself
back in the hallway, and then I found
myself, my avatar just lying there
like, with my, in third person, with my
head off, and, and like, no head, and.
Maybe this is meant
Sam: to happen, it's just a rare event.
Oliver: No, it's definitely a glitch,
and then it was just, it was just like,
there, and then, it was like, the sound
of like, Rush being like, kind of close,
but, and, but not too close, and it
was, wasn't getting any closer, and then
suddenly I heard the sounds of Rush's
jumpscare, but I couldn't see it, and then
it said dis and then it, and then I got
disconnected, like, that was super weird.
Oh,
Sam: okay.
Well, this is not a known event.
You've read an awful lot about this game
and you don't know anything about this.
No, it's
Oliver: just a, it's just a weird glitch.
Okay.
Well, no, it is a weird glitch.
Like some people play games for
like, to get, to find these glitches.
Oh,
Sam: of course.
Well, I guess, well, you're
lucky in a way, but of course
you didn't get a recording of it.
But yeah, it's, so there you go.
Consider yourself lucky to
have had a weird glitch that
you haven't read about ever.
Yeah.
Okay.
And so was that one of the fun facts?
Because you had some of those too.
But we
Oliver: have been going
for nearly an hour.
I'm just going to say one fun fact now.
Around 50 percent of players
find figure the hardest entity.
Right.
I, look, it took me five or six times
to get past the library, but nothing
that I've experienced with seek.
Because I know seek is probably
, the hardest entity for me, but.
Most of the bits I'm okay
with, but there's this one
bit that I really suck on.
It's the looking left and right parts.
So like, there's this room with
like, is there like a pole in
the way, or a bunch of furniture?
And like, there's three doors.
Two of them are blocked or damaged,
and one of them's a real door.
And an entity called guiding light,
like, shows which one is right, but
still, you mean you have to look to
check each one, and It's that for
some reason that's find it really hard
Sam: yeah okay all right so fun
fact seeks the hardest even though
Oliver: I find seek the hardest is what I
Sam: mean oh no don't rub your face
on the mic a lot of other people
find some other one harder gotcha
did you have another fun fact
Oliver: I think we should wrap things up
Sam: now ah okay you've
managed to wear yourself out
Oliver: I don't know what I think.
Yeah, I, yeah, I've blurred myself out.
Sam: Oh, that's good.
That's good.
Hey, look, you know what?
It's tough.
I've, I've experienced this where
I've really studied up on a subject
and I know so much about it.
And it's tough to know what to
do with all that information,
Oliver: isn't it?
Yeah.
Now, I'm sorry about having, I'm
sorry if you thinking this episode
might be cool, but then it's
just basically an hour of this.
Oh, I think if people
Sam: like doors, they'll
probably like this.
Yeah.
And I mean, look, some of the parents
out there might be able to relate.
to kids and conversations like this.
And of course, a lot of the
adults out there also info dump.
I've certainly done it many times.
And you know what?
Info dumping can be a strength if
you, if we pick the right moments.
And of course A lot of people
podcast precisely because they need
somewhere to put the information.
Oliver: Now I know this special has
really turned out to be a special
since it's like, not like ours.
Normally our episodes are like only
like five or really more like that
minutes long, like maybe seven,
five to seven minutes long, but
this is, this is probably over
one hour of recording time now.
Just about.
And.
Well.
Yeah.
I think this is going to.
Also, make sure to wait for our
next special, the Peanuts special.
Ah,
Sam: yes, future specials
discussing Peanuts and This,
Oliver: you probably, you might have
heard of the comic by Charles M.
Schultz.
Yeah, it's
Sam: been around for a long time.
Yeah.
It's a classic.
It's my fault that you
got into it, heh heh.
But no, this has
definitely been us special.
Future M's much shorter.
Thank you, you Dawes obsessives
for hanging in there.
Or, if you're not a Dawes obsessive
Oliver: good on you for finding out.
Maybe, maybe you even want
to play this new game.
Sam: Maybe you even want to try this quite
Oliver: popular game.
Like, yeah, like I feel like the
people active is like, they're
going up by like 3k every day.
Oh, okay, it's booming.
Like one day it was 17.
5k, the next day it was like 20.
It's
Sam: still not as popular as
the very popular Brookhaven,
but hey, it's going up.
No,
Oliver: I mean, yes, yes, of
course, it is not as popular.
Sam: As the monster, monsterly
Oliver: successful Brookhaven, yeah.
475k active, like, like.
It's going to be hard to beat.
Like.
Most guys, like, maybe like, if you're
lucky you might get as much as Dawes, but
like this, this is like, the only game
that has this much active, like, by far.
Yeah,
Sam: yeah, that's right.
And,
Oliver: Like, and it's not like they had
any skill in making this game, it's just
like, anyone could think of a roleplay
game out of town, and like, that is.
Aw,
Sam: you gotta be kidding me.
It's successful for a reason.
You find the concept to be
a little bit unoriginal, but
nonetheless it's captivating
enough to whoever's playing it.
Also, it would have taken an
awful lot of skill to make it
Oliver: no matter what.
Ah, I guess the town does
have some detail in it.
Well, of course,
Sam: but, but also like I realize
the graphics aren't as fancy as they
are for doors or whatever, but like a
lot of work would have gone into it.
Oliver: Most people don't, I mean,
like every time I played the game
I'm just like, Wow, the graphics,
the lighting, it looks so good.
Sam: Oh, indoors, compared to most Roblox
Oliver: games.
Especially on PC, the lighting looks even
more beautiful, I mean, it's crazy how,
how Good the graphics are in this game.
Sam: Okay, so they put a big effort
into the visual side of things.
Are there games that you may be
less impressed with the graphics?
They probably still
took an enormous amount
Oliver: of effort.
I don't really, I, to be honest,
I haven't really thought about the
difference between graphics from Dawson.
I don't really care about it
Sam: anyway.
Okay.
All right, well, I see.
Well, I was just going to point out
that a lot of work goes into any game
anyway, so, you know, like, respect.
But nonetheless, we're here to celebrate
Doors and it's the anniversary, the one
year anniversary of its mega update, Hotel
Plus, so give it a try if you haven't.
All right, anything else?
Oliver: Not really.
Sam: Ah, okay, well, buddy,
thank you for taking the time
to talk about this with me.
Oliver: I find it a pleasure
that you agreed to it.
Aw,
Sam: you're welcome.
It was a pleasure.
Let's I was starting to struggle
under the tremendous weight
of detail by the end there,
Oliver: but I'm going to let the pressure,
I'm going to let the weight off you now.
I don't care if you remember
anything I just said.
No,
Sam: I remember, you'd be surprised
how much of it I've remembered.
Okay.
And, I've got to say, you do have
a knack for memorising things,
so hey, that's a superpower.
Oliver: Alright.
Look, I don't have a knack for memorising,
let's say, names, but maybe, I'm good at
memorising information from video games.
Sam: Well, it's highly motivational
because you want to win it.
Now, I think we need to find a way
to gamify remembering people's names
because that would help me too.
Oliver: You mean turn it
into a card of a game?
Yeah, we
Sam: need to have like achievements
we can unlock, like, you know, I
remembered a person's name the first
time, like that's an achievement.
I remembered a person's
Oliver: name, like, I know, I remember,
I remembered a really long person's name.
I remember the long
Sam: name I remember the name of somebody.
that i didn't meet again till like a
year later and i still remembered like
that's an achievement i mean like we
could hey we could gamify name remembering
Oliver: for sure i'm pretty sure
that you could think of like so
many examples of achievements
Sam: yeah and look it's just in all areas
of life if you care about it and you
work at it you are gonna Get good at it.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And you are going to learn a lot about
Oliver: it.
I just thought of another achievement.
Learn, learn all the names
in somebody's group and their
nicknames for like the group.
Sam: Yes.
Yes.
Yep.
Knowing, knowing other ways
to refer to them for sure.
And if you ever played the game
where people go around in a
circle and they say their name.
Oh
Oliver: yeah.
You have to, yeah.
You have to remember.
That's tough.
Like Chinese whispers,
like I love the game.
Sam: And it's surprising how often the
message actually does get there intact.
All right.
Well, thanks.
